Flowers & Fauna of Monteverde

School started three weeks ago and we met the other expat parents. There are only three other families actually living here in Monteverde. The other international students are studying here without their families. It has been interesting to meet everyone, hear their stories and realize how much we all have in common. For one reason or another we have all made this choice to take a sabbatical from work, sell or rent out our houses and come to a much simpler life. We have had a few get togethers and are enjoying each other's company so much so that we have decided to attempt a hiking trip every week. Last week we hiked the trails around the school. This week we attempted to hike from the school to Cerro Amigos but we took a wrong turn.... 5 hours later we enjoyed a well deserved lunch at a restaurant in Cerro Plano. What an exhausting day.

Here is a glimpse of what we saw.

It is difficult to see but in this pond (which was formed when a tree fell over and left a huge hole in the ground) there are hundreds if not thousands of pollywogs! The water was moving constantly as it was so full.
It was easy for Scott to reach in and have a handful to show us.

This has got to be the smallest frog I have ever seen!

This was the path... constantly surrounded by beauty.
